YOUNG LIFE OVERVIEW

YOUNG LIFE OVERVIEW

We go to young people for the same reason that Christ came to this earth: To reveal God to them with no strings attached. We love them and go to them on their turf because Christ first came to us in this way. God loved us and came to us; we love kids and go to them. This is incarnational ministry.

Our leaders are the embodiment of the gospel message:

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

INNER LIFE OF A LEADER

INNER LIFE OF A LEADER

Nothing is more important than sitting before the Lord each day and letting His words and Spirit transform your life. Jesus made this clear in His encounter with Martha who was busy with the tasks of hosting while Mary sat at His feet soaking up His every word. We live in a world of short-cuts, instant gratification and we are bombarded with activities that create lifestyles that keep us busy and distracted. As a result, we miss out on the only important and necessary thing in life—sitting at the feet of Jesus.

OUTER LIFE OF A LEADER

OUTER LIFE OF A LEADER

Since 1941, the core of the Young Life ministry has been its staff and volunteer leaders. Our heart is to help grow you as a leader who both knows and understands the gifts that Christ has given you to reach the kids He so loves. We are convinced the work and ministry you do as a Young Life leader is what Christ is calling every disciple to enter into. “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19)

CONTACT WORK

CONTACT WORK

Young Life leaders devote the bulk of their time building meaningful and trusting relationships with kids. A leader must be willing to spend time and energy pouring into kids’ lives. Kids are starving for real relationships and it is in this context that the Gospel will come alive. Leaders “win the right to be heard” by going to kids and contacting them on their turf. Leaders go to where lost kids are and build friendships with them. We are not limited to contact work only at our meetings; it mostly happens in the midst of everyday life. Leaders live out the principle that relationships with people are more important than the program. People are our program and our friendships with them display this in the way we treat them and the time we spend with them.

CLUB

A successful club is one where Christ is made known and where things are done with His attitude of excellence. Kids should leave feeling that there was something different about that hour, that they were loved.

THE GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL

THE GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL

The ultimate hope for the kids we work with is that they will believe in Jesus Christ and trust Him throughout their lives into eternity. Our prayer is that they would live with the awareness that Jesus took our sins upon Himself at the cross and that He chose to die in our place. It is Good News to realize we are now no longer destined to live imprisoned in these sins, but we are free to be discipled and to live as we were created to live. Similarly, as good as it is to embrace Jesus as our personal Savior, it is exceedingly Good News when we embrace Him as our benevolent King and Lord. You see, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in all its grandeur and vast expansiveness, is in fact more than Good News; it’s the Best News ever! However, this Great News is oftentimes not experienced as such because we tend to forget how immense it is and that the power of this Good News is with us forever.

CAMPAIGNERS / DISCIPLESHIP

CAMPAIGNERS / DISCIPLESHIP

When young people have a vision for their relationship with Jesus that extends beyond themselves, to their friends, family, people in their community, the whole world will change! Young Life leaders, who are living out this vision on campus, get to invite young people to be a part of the team, sharing the love of Jesus as they grow in their relationship with Jesus together. Campaigners are a group of students committed to growing in their relationship with Christ and sharing this relationship with others. We can’t lose the “mission” part of Campaigners or we lose a critical piece of what Christ has asked each disciple to do.

CAMPING

CAMPING

Camp wakes kids up to see Christ in a way they might not see Him back at home. We believe that if kids see Christ clearly, without distractions, they will find Him hard to resist. The problem with many kids is that they never get a shot at a clear picture. Young Life camps are operated on the premise that if we do nothing else, we will give kids a chance to see a clear picture of Jesus.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

It’s giving kids a reputation to grow into while inviting them to participate in what God is doing in their school. It is seeing kids for what you know they were made to be and inviting them into the adventure of making Christ known to their friends. Raise the bar high and watch them light up when they realize what they were made for.

TEAM LEADER

From him the whole body, joined and heled together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Ephesians 4:16

Go Lead

Go Lead

“Don’t forget that the only thing that really lasts that you can impart to kids isn’t your humor, your clever antics, or even your best talks; rather, what really stays with them over the years is what you imparted in word and deed about the Savior.

- Jim Rayburn
