Over the years we have watched the video from Beth Moore titled “The Hairbrush" with our Capernaum leaders. It's a great video for a good belly laugh. While it is super funny it has an amazing point: are we listening to God or our we doing our own thing? Now you may ask what this has to do with Capernaum….everything!

So often we do our planning and think about games, ideas, fun that we want to have.  But are we listening to God, are we praying about each night, each game, each friend, each talk?  What is God up to? How is he using us in this ministry?  To understand the answers we all need to be in a relationship with Him.  We all need to be talking to God, listening to the Holy Spirit, and reflecting on His word.  “I am the vine; you are the branches.  If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing (John 15:5)

The other key point from this video is we need to be comfortable being uncomfortable.  I know there are times when we are put in uncomfortable situations with our Capernaum friends.  Whether it be that silence with the non verbal friend, the drool from a friend, or that one tough question…  “why did God make me this way?”  Whatever the situation we have been called to this ministry to love our friends. I will admit, there are times I feel uncomfortable. But, this is what He is asking me to do so I will do it.  We need to rely on God’s strength when we get in these situations.  His put us there so that we trust Him and love just like Jesus did.

So…encourage your leaders to pick up the hair brush, have a relationship with God, and get comfortable with being uncomfortable!
